I grew up wanting to be a designer and ended up studying contemporary jewellery design, finishing with a Masters’ degree from the Royal College of Art in 1990.

As a child I had also enjoyed baking and making a mess in the kitchen. Sorry mum for the flour trails over the work surfaces.

It didn’t occur to me back then that I could put design and baking together and create beautiful cakes. What started out as an interest has become a passion – it’s given me a new focus and appreciation that a humble cake can also be a deliciously edible work of art.

Celebrations and cakes are a perfect fit and can be the best reason to have a beautiful, bespoke creation, but recently a little cake of mine rekindled a friendship between three women who knew each other many years ago, (one being me). Such is the power of cake!
